He will remain until I come (Jn 21:22-21:22)

“Jesus said to Peter.

‘If it is my will

That he should remain

Until I come,

What is that to you?

Follow me!’”

λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς Ἐὰν αὐτὸν θέλω μένειν ἕως ἔρχομαι, τί πρὸς σέ; σύ μοι ἀκολούθει.

John uniquely indicated that Jesus (ὁ Ἰησοῦς) said to Peter (λέγει αὐτῷ).  If it is his will (Ἐὰν αὐτὸν θέλω) that his unnamed beloved disciple should remain (μένειν ἕως ἔρχομαι) until he came (ἕως ἔρχομαι), what was that to Peter (τί πρὸς σέ).  He should just follow Jesus (σύ μοι ἀκολούθει).  Jesus seemed to reprimand Peter for asking about this beloved disciple.  It was none of his business, if he was going to stay here until Jesus returned.  The job of Peter was clear, just follow Jesus.  Do you understand that everyone has a different role to play?
