The Paraclete will come (Jn 16:7-16:7)

I tell you

The truth!

It is to your advantage

That I go away.

If I do not go away,

The Paraclete

Will not come

To you.

But if I go,

I will send him

To you.”

John uniquely indicated that Jesus said that he would tell them the truth (ἀλλ’ ἐγὼ τὴν ἀλήθειαν λέγω ὑμῖν).  It was to their advantage or profit (συμφέρει ὑμῖν) that he went away (ἵνα ἐγὼ ἀπέλθω).  If he did not go away (ἐὰν γὰρ μὴ ἀπέλθω), the Paraclete or advocate (ὁ Παράκλητος) would not come to them (οὐ μὴ ἔλθῃ πρὸς ὑμᾶς).  However, if he went away (ἐὰν δὲ πορευθῶ), he would send him to them (πέμψω αὐτὸν πρὸς ὑμᾶς).  This was an attempt to soothe his disciples.  It was better for Jesus to leave them and then send the Paraclete or the Holy Spirit.  They would gain great benefits from the Pentecost gift of the Spirit that was described in Acts, chapter 2:1-4, including boldness and perseverance.  Thus, the Holy Spirit proceeded from the Father and the Son.  What do you know about the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete?
