The servant is not greater than the master (Jn 15:20-15:20)

“Remember

The word

That I said to you!

‘Servants

Are not greater

Than their master.’

If they persecuted me,

They will persecute you.

If they kept

My word,

They will keep

Yours also”

John uniquely indicated that Jesus said that they should remember (μνημονεύετε) the words (τοῦ λόγου) that he had said to them (οὗ ἐγὼ εἶπον ὑμῖν) about servants who were not greater (Οὐκ ἔστιν δοῦλος μείζων) than their master (τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ).  If they persecuted Jesus (εἰ ἐμὲ ἐδίωξαν), they would persecute them (καὶ ὑμᾶς διώξουσιν).  If they kept or guarded (ἐτήρησαν) the word of Jesus (εἰ τὸν λόγον μου), they would also keep or guard their words (καὶ τὸν ὑμέτερον τηρήσουσιν) too.  Jesus asked them to remember what he had told them about servants not being greater than their master.  If they had persecuted Jesus, they surely would persecute them.  On the other hand, if they had listened to Jesus, they would listen and keep their words also.  If they had not listened to Jesus, they would not listen to them, but the reverse was also true.  The young Christian community would suffer many of the things that had happened to Jesus.  Are you willing to be persecuted for following Jesus?
