No excuse for sin (Jn 15:22-15:22)

“If I had not come

And spoken

To them,

They would not have sin.

But now,

They have no excuse

For their sin.”

John uniquely indicated that Jesus said that if he had not come (εἰ μὴ ἦλθον) and spoken to them (καὶ ἐλάλησα αὐτοῖς), they would not have sin (ἁμαρτίαν οὐκ εἴχοσαν).  But now (νῦν δὲ), they have no excuse (πρόφασιν οὐκ ἔχουσιν) for their sin (περὶ τῆς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν).  No longer would ignorance be an excuse.  Jesus had come and spoken to them, so if they did not accept him, they were sinners.  They had rejected Jesus, which was different that not knowing anything about him.  They were fully culpable for their sinful negative actions towards Jesus.  Do you make up excuses about why you sin?
