The command of love (Jn 15:17-15:17)

“I am giving you

This command!

That you may

Love one another!”

ταῦτα ἐντέλλομαι ὑμῖν, ἵνα ἀγαπᾶτε ἀλλήλους.

John uniquely indicated that Jesus said that he was giving them this command (ταῦτα ἐντέλλομαι ὑμῖν) that they love one another (ἵνα ἀγαπᾶτε ἀλλήλους).  Jesus repeated again what he had just said earlier in verse 12.  Jesus said that his commandment (αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ ἐντολὴ ἡ ἐμὴ) was that they were to love one another (ἵνα ἀγαπᾶτε ἀλλήλους) as he had loved them (καθὼς ἠγάπησα ὑμᾶς).  Jesus clearly stated that his commandment was one of love.  They were to love each other as he had loved them, plain and simple.  They were to infuse divine love into their friendships with each other.  This is repeated here again without a reference to divine love, just fraternal love for each other.  Do you love your fellow Christian believers?
