I have chosen you! (Jn 15:16-15:16)

“You did not choose me!

But I chose you!

I have appointed you

To go

And bear fruit

That will last.

The Father

Will give you

Whatever you ask him

In my name.”

John uniquely indicated that Jesus said that they had not chosen him (οὐχ ὑμεῖς με ἐξελέξασθε).  But he had chosen them (ἐγὼ ἐξελεξάμην ὑμᾶς).  He had appointed them (καὶ ἔθηκα ὑμᾶς) to go out (ἵνα ὑμεῖς ὑπάγητε) and bear fruit (καὶ καρπὸν φέρητε) that would last (καὶ ὁ καρπὸς ὑμῶν μένῃ).  Thus, God, the Father (τὸν Πατέρα), would give them (δῷ ὑμῖν) whatever they asked for (ἵνα ὅ τι ἂν αἰτήσητε) in his name (ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου).  Jesus had called them to be his followers.  They had not chosen him.  He had sent them out to bear lasting fruit.  Thus, God, the Father in heaven, the Father of Jesus, would give them whatever they wanted, as long as they asked for it in the name of Jesus.
