Friends! (Jn 15:15-15:15)

“I do not call you

Any longer.

Because the servant

Does not know

What his master

Is doing.

But I call you

Because I have made known

To you

That I have heard

From my Father.”

John uniquely indicated that Jesus said that he would not call them servants (λέγω ὑμᾶς δούλους) any longer (οὐκέτι).  The servant (ὅτι ὁ δοῦλος) does not know (οὐκ οἶδεν) what his master is doing (τί ποιεῖ αὐτοῦ ὁ κύριος).  However, Jesus was going to call them friends (ὑμᾶς δὲ εἴρηκα φίλους), because he had told them or made known to them (ἐγνώρισα ὑμῖν) everything (ὅτι πάντα) that he had heard (ἃ ἤκουσα) from his Father (παρὰ τοῦ Πατρός μου).  No longer was Jesus going to call his disciples servants.  They would be his friends, because they knew what he was doing.  He had told them everything that he knew and heard from his heavenly Father, God.  Are you a friend of Jesus?
