“As the Father
Has loved me,
I have loved you.
Abide in my love!”
καθὼς ἠγάπησέν με ὁ Πατήρ, κἀγὼ ὑμᾶς ἠγάπησα· μείνατε ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ἐμῇ.
John uniquely indicated that Jesus said that as the Father (ὁ Πατήρ) has loved Jesus (καθὼς ἠγάπησέν με), thus he has loved them (κἀγὼ ὑμᾶς ἠγάπησα). They were to remain or abide in his love (μείνατε ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ἐμῇ). In a beautiful saying about love, Jesus said just as God, the Father, has loved him, he in turn has loved his disciples. Thus, they were to always remain in his love. Love needs to be reciprocated. As Jesus has loved us, we ought to love him. Do you love Jesus?
