You will not be destitute orphans (Jn 14:18-14:18)

“I will not leave you

I am coming

To you.”

οὐκ ἀφήσω ὑμᾶς ὀρφανούς, ἔρχομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς.

John uniquely indicated that Jesus said that he was not leaving them (οὐκ ἀφήσω ὑμᾶς) as destitute orphans (ὀρφανούς), without a father or mother.  Instead, Jesus would come to them (ἔρχομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς).  Even though Jesus would leave this world with his death on the cross, he remained with them spiritually in their worship symbolic sacraments and in these sacred writings.  The new followers of Jesus would not be alone like lost orphans.  Have you ever felt like an orphan?
