“Therefore,
Many of the Jews
Who had come
With Mary
Had seen
What Jesus did.
They believed in him.”
John uniquely indicated that many of the Jews (Πολλοὶ οὖν ἐκ τῶν Ἰουδαίων), who had come with Mary (οἱ ἐλθόντες πρὸς τὴν Μαριὰμ), had seen (καὶ θεασάμενοι) what Jesus had done (ὃ ἐποίησεν). They believed in him (ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν). Thus, this sign of the raising of Lazarus from the dead led to the belief of many more Jewish people from Jerusalem. However, they were probably friends of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Would you believe in the power of someone who made a man rise from the dead?
