“Then Jesus
Was again
Greatly disturbed.
He came to the tomb.
It was a cave.
With a stone
Lying against it.”
John uniquely indicated that Jesus (Ἰησοῦς οὖν) again (πάλιν) was greatly disturbed within himself (ἐμβριμώμενος ἐν ἑαυτῷ). However, he came (ἔρχεται) to the tomb (εἰς τὸ μνημεῖον) that was a cave (ἦν δὲ σπήλαιον), with a stone (καὶ λίθος) lying against it (ἐπέκειτο ἐπ’ αὐτῷ). This was a repeat of verse 33 about Jesus being disturbed or upset, thus showing his humanity. The tomb of Lazarus was really a cave with a big stone in front of it. Jesus would be buried in a cave also. Does death disturb you?
