The prayer of Jesus (Jn 11:41-11:41)

“Thus,

They took away

The stone.

Jesus lifted up

His eyes.

He said.

‘Father!

I thank you

For having heard me!’”

John uniquely indicated that they took away (ἦραν οὖν) the stone (τὸν λίθον) to the cave tomb.  Then Jesus (ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς) lifted (ἦρεν) his eyes upward (τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἄνω).  He said (καὶ εἶπεν) to the Father (Πάτερ) that he thanked him (εὐχαριστῶ σοι) for having heard him (ὅτι ἤκουσάς μου).  First the stone was removed from the mouth of the cave.  Then Jesus prayed to his Father, as he thanked God, the Father, for listening to him.  Notice the use of the Greek word εὐχαριστῶ, that means to give thanks, a word that will later be applied to the communion service of the Eucharist.  Once again, Jesus wanted to show that all his power came from God, the Father, not him.  Do you thank God for all that you have?
