Now I see! (Jn 9:25-9:25)

“The former blind man

‘I do not know

Whether he is a sinner.

One thing

I do know.

Although I was blind,

Now I see!’”

ἀπεκρίθη οὖν ἐκεῖνος Εἰ ἁμαρτωλός ἐστιν οὐκ οἶδα· ἓν οἶδα, ὅτι τυφλὸς ὢν ἄρτι βλέπω.

John uniquely indicated that the former blind man answered them (ἀπεκρίθη οὖν ἐκεῖνος).  He said that he did not know (οὐκ οἶδα) whether Jesus was a sinner (Εἰ ἁμαρτωλός ἐστιν) or not.  However, he did know one thing (ἓν οἶδα) for sure.  He had been blind (ὅτι τυφλὸς ὢν) and now he could see (ἄρτι βλέπω).  This is a great Christian message.  Before Jesus came along, I was blind, but now I can see.  In other words, the coming of Jesus has brought us from blindness to sight.  The spiritual song “Amazing Grace” has this line about being blind, but now I see, obviously based on this saying of the blind man here.  Do you see better because of Jesus?
