Let him speak for himself! (Jn 9:21-9:21)

“His parents said.

‘But we do not know

How it is

That he now sees.

We do not know

Who opened

His eyes.

Ask him!

He is of age.

He will speak

For himself.’”

John uniquely indicated that his parents said that they did not know (οὐκ οἴδαμεν) how it was that that he now sees (πῶς δὲ νῦν βλέπει).  They did not know (ἡμεῖς οὐκ οἴδαμεν) who opened his eyes (ἢ τίς ἤνοιξεν αὐτοῦ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς).  Why didn’t they ask or question him (αὐτὸν ἐρωτήσατε)?  He was of a mature age (ἡλικίαν ἔχει).  He could speak for himself The parents of this man born blind were clear.  They knew that he was their child who was born blind.  However, they had no idea how he got his sight back.  Since he was already a mature age or an adult, he could speak for himself.  They had nothing more to say.  Do you know anyone who has a child with a disability?
