They doubted that he was blind (Jn 9:18-9:18)

“The Jews

Did not believe

That he had been blind

And then received

His sight,

Until they called

The parents

Of the man

Who had received his sight.”

John uniquely indicated that that this Jewish group (οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι), rather than the Pharisees, did not believe (οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν οὖν) that he had been blind (περὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἦν τυφλὸς) and then received his sight (καὶ ἀνέβλεψεν).  Thus, they called (ἕως ὅτου ἐφώνησαν) the parents of the man (τοὺς γονεῖς αὐτοῦ) who had received his sight (τοῦ ἀναβλέψαντος).  There seems to have been an investigation about this blind man.  It is unlikely that this was some sort of formal session.  Instead, they were simply inquiring about the status of this man before Jesus came along.  Was he really blind in the first place?  How blind were you to Jesus?
