Is this your son? (Jn 9:19-9:19)

“They asked his parents.

‘Is this your son?

Do you say

That he was born blind?

How then does he now see?’”

καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτοὺς λέγοντες Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς ὑμῶν, ὃν ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι τυφλὸς ἐγεννήθη; πῶς οὖν βλέπει ἄρτι;

John uniquely indicated that they, this amorphous Jewish group, asked the parents (καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτοὺς λέγοντες) of this man who had regained his sight whether he was their son (Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς ὑμῶν).  Were they willing to say (ὃν ὑμεῖς λέγετε) that he was born blind (ὅτι τυφλὸς ἐγεννήθη)?  If so, now how could he see (πῶς οὖν βλέπει ἄρτι)?  This might resolve this question, since no one knew him better than his parents.  They would know whether he was born blind of not.  Did something really happen to this person?  Has something really happened to you?
