“Now it was a Sabbath day
Made the clay
And opened his eyes.”
John uniquely indicated that that it was a Sabbath day (ἦν δὲ σάββατον ἐν ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ) when Jesus (ὁ Ἰησοῦς) had made the clay (τὸν πηλὸν ἐποίησεν) and opened his eyes (καὶ ἀνέῳξεν αὐτοῦ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς). Another new element has been introduced to this story. All this took place on the Sabbath, just like earlier in chapter 5:9, with the man by the pool who was cured. What do you do you on the Sabbath?
