The Son of Man (Jn 8:28-8:28)

“Thus,

Jesus said.

‘When you have lifted up

The Son of Man,

Then you will realize

That I am who am.

I do nothing

On my own authority,

But I speak these things

As the Father

Has instructed me.’”

John uniquely indicated that Jesus (ὁ Ἰησοῦς) said (εἶπεν οὖν) that when they would lift up (Ὅταν ὑψώσητε) the Son of Man (τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου), they would know or realize (τότε γνώσεσθε) that Jesus was “I am who am (ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι),” God, the God of Moses.  Jesus did nothing (ποιῶ οὐδέν) on his own authority (καὶ ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ).  He only spoke these things (ταῦτα λαλῶ) that the Father (ὁ Πατὴρ) instructed him to say (ἀλλὰ καθὼς ἐδίδαξέν με).  They would finally recognize Jesus when he would be lifted up on the cross, since he was the Son of Man.  Then they would finally realize that he was who is, God.  He was only speaking what God the Father wanted him to say, what he had instructed him to say.  He was their God (ἐγώ εἰμι) of Moses, and they did not recognize him.  Do you recognize God in your life?
