The abiding presence of Jesus (Jn 6:56-6:56)

“Those who eat

My flesh

And drink

My blood

Abide in me.

And I in them.”

ὁ τρώγων μου τὴν σάρκα καὶ πίνων μου τὸ αἷμα ἐν ἐμοὶ μένει κἀγὼ ἐν αὐτῷ.

John uniquely had Jesus repeat himself once again so that there would be no confusion.  Jesus said that those who were eating (ὁ τρώγων) his flesh (μου τὴν σάρκα) and drinking (καὶ πίνων) his blood (μου τὸ αἷμα) abided or remained (μένει) within him (ἐν ἐμοὶ).  He also remained, stayed with, or abided (μένει) in them (ἐν αὐτῷ).  This communion was complete.  Those who eat and drank the flesh and blood of Jesus were in communion or stayed with him.  Jesus also remained with them also.  The Eucharistic communion was complete between those who had sacramentally eaten and drank the bread and the wine, the body and blood of Jesus.  They were with Jesus and he was with them with his abiding presence.  Do you believe that you actually receive the body and blood of Jesus in your Christian communion service?
