The bread of God (Jn 6:33-6:33)

“The bread

Of God is that

Which comes down

From heaven.

The bread

Of God

Gives life

To the world.”

ὁ γὰρ ἄρτος τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐστιν ὁ καταβαίνων ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ζωὴν διδοὺς τῷ κόσμῳ.

John uniquely indicated that Jesus continued with this discourse on the bread of life that was not in the other canonical synoptic gospels.  Jesus said that this bread (ὁ γὰρ ἄρτος) is of God (τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐστιν).  This bread comes down (ὁ καταβαίνων) from heaven (ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ) and gives life (καὶ ζωὴν διδοὺς) to the world (τῷ κόσμῳ).  Jesus and his eucharistic bread came from heaven to give sustaining life to the world.  Do you thank God for sustaining your life?
