“When the crowd
Saw
That neither Jesus
Nor his disciples
Were there,
They themselves
Got into the boats.
They went
To Capernaum,
Looking for Jesus.”
John uniquely indicated that when the crowd (ὁ ὄχλος) saw (ὅτε οὖν εἶδεν) that neither Jesus (ὅτι Ἰησοῦς) nor his disciples (οὐδὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ) were there (οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκεῖ), they themselves (αὐτοὶ) embarked or got (ἐνέβησαν) into the boats (εἰς τὰ πλοιάρια). They went (καὶ ἦλθον) to Capernaum (εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ), looking for or seeking Jesus (ζητοῦντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν). This crowd was disappointed with all these boasts, but no Jesus. They could not find Jesus or his disciples, so that they decided to get into these boats to go to Capernaum on the assumption that Jesus and his close followers were there. How do you follow Jesus?
