The enduring eternal food (Jn 6:27-6:27)

“Do not work

For the food

That perishes.

But work

For the food

That endures

Into eternal life.

The Son of Man

Will give it

To you.

God the Father

Has set his seal

On the Son of Man.”

John uniquely indicated that Jesus said that they should not work (ἐργάζεσθε μὴ) for food (τὴν βρῶσιν) that perishes (τὴν ἀπολλυμένην).  However, they should work for the food (ἀλλὰ τὴν βρῶσιν) that endures (τὴν μένουσαν) into eternal life, into the ages (εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον).  The Son of Man (ἣν ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου) would give it to them (ὑμῖν δώσει), because God (ὁ Θεός) the Father (γὰρ ὁ Πατὴρ) has set his seal (ἐσφράγισεν) on the Son of Man (τοῦτον).  We all know that the earthly food that we eat perishes.  Only the food from the Son of Man, Jesus, will sustain us into eternal life.  Even the manna in the desert at the time of Moses perished or went away after one day.  This eternal food is often referred to as the Eucharistic bread of eternal life.  God the Father has sealed the Son of Man, since sealing was a form of authority.  Thus, we sometimes speak about the Seal of the Holy Spirit.  However, this discourse of Jesus was not in the other canonical synoptic gospels.  Do you want finite food or eternal food?
