The judgment of Jesus (Jn 5:30-5:30)

“I can do nothing

On my own.

As I hear,

I judge.

My judgment

Is just.

Because I seek

Not to do

My own will,

But the will

Of him

Who sent me.”

Οὐ δύναμαι ἐγὼ ποιεῖν ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐδέν· καθὼς ἀκούω κρίνω, καὶ ἡ κρίσις ἡ ἐμὴ δικαία ἐστίν, ὅτι οὐ ζητῶ τὸ θέλημα τὸ ἐμὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ πέμψαντός με.

John uniquely indicated that Jesus continued with his theological monologue, now using the first person singular.  Jesus said that he could not do anything on his own, since by himself, he could do nothing (Οὐ δύναμαι ἐγὼ ποιεῖν ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐδέν).  He first listened (καθὼς ἀκούω), either to those to be judged or the Father, and then judged (κρίνω).  His judgment was just, correct, or righteous (καὶ ἡ κρίσις ἡ ἐμὴ δικαία ἐστίν), because Jesus did not seek (ὅτι οὐ ζητῶ) to do his own will, what he wanted to do (τὸ θέλημα τὸ ἐμὸν), but rather (ἀλλὰ) the will of him who sent him (τὸ θέλημα τοῦ πέμψαντός με), what his Father wanted.  Jesus was intent on doing the will of his Father, what he wanted done, not his own desires.  Everything came from the Father whom he listened to very closely.  Clearly, God the Father was the one who sent him.  Do you try to do the will of God?
