The Father loves the Son (Jn 3:35-3:35)

“The Father

Loves the Son.

He has placed all things

In his hands.”

ὁ Πατὴρ ἀγαπᾷ τὸν Υἱόν, καὶ πάντα δέδωκεν ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ.

John uniquely continued with this poetic theological presentation of John the Baptist to his disciples.  John the Baptist said that the Father (ὁ Πατὴρ) loves (ἀγαπᾷ) the Son (τὸν Υἱόν).  He has given everything (καὶ πάντα δέδωκεν) into his hands (ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ).  This concept of the Father giving the Son the whole world was a popular theme in the mid-twentieth century.  The traditional spiritual song “He’s got the Whole World in his Hands” was first published in 1927, but popularized in 1958 by Laurie London, when it became the only folk gospel spiritual to make it to #1 on the billboard charts.  Do you believe that God has the whole world in his hands?
