“The apostles said.
‘Look!
Lord!
Here are two swords.’
Jesus replied
To them.
‘It is enough.’”
οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Κύριε, ἰδοὺ μάχαιραι ὧδε δύο. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἱκανόν ἐστιν.
Luke also had a final unique saying of Jesus at this Last Supper meal that was not in the other gospel stories. Only Luke indicated that the apostles said to Jesus, the Lord (οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Κύριε), that they had two swords (ἰδοὺ μάχαιραι ὧδε δύο). Finally, Jesus replied to them (ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς) that this was enough (Ἱκανόν ἐστιν). The apostles seemed to misunderstand Jesus, since that was common. They were going to get a lot of swords to put up a battle. They already had two swords. Have you ever misunderstood anyone?
