“They did not understand
About the loaves.
Because their hearts
Were hardened.”
οὐ γὰρ συνῆκαν ἐπὶ τοῖς ἄρτοις, ἀλλ’ ἦν αὐτῶν ἡ καρδία πεπωρωμένη.
This is a unique statement of Mark that seems to reprimand the disciples of Jesus. These disciples did not understand about the multiplication of the loaves of bread (οὐ γὰρ συνῆκαν ἐπὶ τοῖς ἄρτοις) because their hearts were hardened, petrified, or calloused (ἀλλ’ ἦν αὐτῶν ἡ καρδία πεπωρωμένη). Once again, the disciples are befuddled.
