“Jesus asked them.
‘How many loaves have you?’
They said.
‘Seven,
And a few small fish.’”
καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς Πόσους ἄρτους ἔχετε; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ἑπτά, καὶ ὀλίγα ἰχθύδια.
Mark, chapter 8:5, has a similar statement about the 7 loaves of bread. Jesus asked his disciples (καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς) how many loaves of bread that they had (Πόσους ἄρτους ἔχετε). They responded that they had 7 loaves (οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ἑπτά) and a few small fish (καὶ ὀλίγα ἰχθύδια). The earlier multiplication of bread in chapter 14:17 had 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.
