I.  Yahweh loves Israel

The opening oracle (Mal 1:1-1:1)

Yahweh loves Israel (Mal 1:2-1:2)

Against Edom (Mal 1:3-1:5)


II. Against the priests

The priests despise the name of Yahweh (Mal 1:6-1:6)

The polluted food (Mal 1:7-1:8)

Yahweh would not accept these gifts (Mal 1:9-1:10)

The great name of Yahweh (Mal 1:11-1:11)

Profanation of the name of Yahweh (Mal 1:12-1:14)


The command for the priests (Mal 2:1-2:1)

The curse (Mal 2:2-2:3)

The covenant with Levi (Mal 2:4-2:5)

The good Levite priest (Mal 2:6-2:7)

The priests are now despised (Mal 2:8-2:9)


III. Against mixed marriages and divorces

One father (Mal 2:10-2:10)

Judah has been unfaithful (Mal 2:11-2:12)

 Yahweh will no longer accept their sacrifices (Mal 2:13-2:13)

Yahweh hates divorces (Mal 2:14-2:16)


IV. The day of Yahweh

Yahweh is weary of evil doers and mere words (Mal 2:17-2:17)


The messenger to prepare the way (Mal 3:1-3:1)

The difficult day of Yahweh (Mal 3:2-3:2)

Purifying the priests for the offerings (Mal 3:3-3:4)

Judgment against the wicked (Mal 3:5-3:5)


V. Gifts to the Temple

Yahweh does not change (Mal 3:6-3:6)

The need to return to Yahweh (Mal 3:7-3:7)

Robbing Yahweh (Mal 3:8-3:10)

Yahweh keeps them safe from locusts (Mal 3:11-3:11)

Israel will be delightful (Mal 3:12-3:12)

Harsh words (Mal 3:13-3:13)

The useless worship of God (Mal 3:14-3:15)


VI. Triumph of the just

Yahweh would remember the just righteous ones (Mal 3:16-3:16)

Yahweh’s people (Mal 3:17-3:18)


The fiery day to come (Mal 4:1-4:1)

The righteous shall prevail (Mal 4:2-4:3)

Remember the teachings of Moses (Mal 4:4-4:4)

The coming of Elijah (Mal 4:5-4:5)

The happy family (Mal 4:6-4:6)
