“The people of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and made him king to succeed his father in Jerusalem. King Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign. He reigned there three months in Jerusalem. Then the king of Egypt deposed him in Jerusalem. He laid on the land a tribute of one hundred talents of silver and one talent of gold. The king of Egypt made King Jehoahaz’s brother Eliakim king over Judah and Jerusalem. He changed his name to Jehoiakim. However, King Neco took his brother King Jehoahaz and carried him to Egypt.”
This is based on 2 Kings, chapter 23, again. King Jehoahaz, the son of King Josiah, was 23 years old when he began to rule, but he only lasted 3 months. There is no mention of his mother or his evil ways here as in 2 Kings. King Jehoahaz was dethroned by King Neco of Egypt who took him to Egypt. In 2 Kings, it said that he died there, but that is not mentioned here, but that can be assumed. Unfortunately, there is no notation about the Annals of the Kings of Judah mentioned here as things are falling apart. Instead King Neco put the brother of King Jehoahaz, also a son of King Josiah, Eliakim, as the new king of Judah. King Neco changed his name from Eliakim to King Jehoiakim. On top of this, he also imposed a tribute on the land of Judah of 100 talents of silver and 1 talent of gold, worth about $2 million USA dollars. There is no mention of King Jehoiakim paying the money to King Neco because he made the people of Judah pay a tax on their land, as in 2 Kings.
