Nathan informs King David of his vision (1 Chr 17:10-17:15)

“Moreover I declare to you that Yahweh will build you a house. When your days are fulfilled to go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons. I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for me. I will establish his throne forever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you. However, I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever. His throne shall be established for ever. In accordance with all these words and all this vision, Nathan spoke to King David.”

Once again this is a continuation of the story of Nathan and King David, based on 2 Samuel, chapter 7, almost word for word. Yahweh told Nathan that King David should build a house for himself but that his offspring would build a house for Yahweh. David’s lineage would last forever as well as the throne of his kingdom. Obviously, this was an exile of the Israelites from Israel. Immediately on the death of King Solomon, there was a split into 2 kingdoms, Judah led by King David’s lineage via King Solomon and King Rehoboam (931-913 BCE) and the kingdom of Israel led by King Jeroboam (931-910 BCE). The later Babylonian Exile put an end to the rule of King David’s line, but there was an attempt to restore it. Yahweh then told Nathan to tell King David what he had seen and heard. Nathan did exactly that.
