“Still Yahweh did not turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, by which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which King Manasseh had provoked him. Yahweh said. ‘I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel. I will reject this city that I have chosen, Jerusalem, and the house of which I said that my name shall be there.’”
Despite all that King Josiah had done, Yahweh was still angry because of King Manasseh. Yahweh was still going to remove Judah from his sight. Worse than that, he was going to reject the city that he had chosen, Jerusalem. He was going to reject his own house, the temple where his name was. This is kind of odd. You would think that there would be happy ending after all the hard work of King Josiah. However, it was only 1 year. Who knows what happened after that 1 year. Certainly this biblical writer was aware of what was to come, the Babylonian captivity.
