The Israelites did not follow the prophets and commandments of Yahweh (2 Kings 17:13-17:18)

“Yet Yahweh warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying. ‘Turn from your evil ways. Keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all that the law which I commanded your ancestors and that I sent to you by my servants, the prophets.’ But they would not listen, but were stubborn, as their ancestors had been, who did not believe in Yahweh their God. They despised his statutes. They despised his covenant that he made with their ancestors. They despised the warnings that he gave them. They went after false idols. They became false. They followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom Yahweh had commanded them that they should not do as they did. They rejected all the commandments of Yahweh their God. They made for themselves cast images of two calves. They made a sacred pole. They worshiped all the host of heaven. They served Baal. They made their sons and their daughters pass through fire offerings. They used divination and augury. They sold themselves to do evil in the sight of Yahweh, provoking him to anger. Therefore Yahweh was very angry with Israel. He removed them out of his sight. None was left but the tribe of Judah alone.”

The Israelites really got Yahweh angry. Yahweh sent his prophets but to no avail. They would not listen to them or follow Yahweh’s commandments. They were stubborn like their ancestors. They despised his statutes, his covenant, and his warnings. They went after false idols, and thus became false themselves. They made images of the two golden calves at Dan and Bethel. They made sacred totem poles and served Baal rather than Yahweh. They offered their sons and daughters as human sacrifices. They used divination, sorcery, and magic. They sold themselves into evil. Now Yahweh was angry so that he removed them from his sight, only Judah was left.
