The plan of Jezebel (1 Kings 21:8-21:10)

“So Jezebel wrote letters in Ahab’s name and sealed them with his seal. She sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who dwelt with Naboth in his city. She wrote in the letters. ‘Proclaim a fast. Have Naboth sit at the head of the assembly. Set two scoundrels opposite him. Have them bring a charge against him, saying. ‘You have cursed God and the king.’ Then take him out. Stone him to death.’”

Jezebel’s plan was to write letters in the name of King Ahab with his seal to the elders and nobles of Jezreel. She wrote that they should proclaim a fast with Naboth in front of everyone. Then two scoundrels would sit opposite him and accuse Naboth of cursing God and the king. The punishment for cursing God and the king, if withstood by 2 people, was stoning to death. This seemed like a nice simple plan.
